News agency PTI has quoted sources as saying that the TDP president and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh is willing to join hands with BJP. A section of the BJP believes that the alliance with Naidu will help the NDA perform well in YSR Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh. Political experts believe that after joining NDA, Naidu, Lok Sabha Elections Can prove helpful in increasing NDA’s seats during this period.
When were both the parties together?
Chandrababu Naidu had contested the 2014 elections together with BJP, when Telangana was not formally separated from Andhra Pradesh. BJP then contested three out of 42 seats in united Andhra Pradesh and won all. After the formation of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh has 25 seats and the BJP is keen to contest anywhere between six to eight seats. The TDP was out of the NDA in 2018, but suffered a major defeat in the 2019 elections when it could win only three Lok Sabha seats and lost power in the state to the YSR Congress. Now both the parties seem to be coming together once again.
